Redoubt world all but lost to Chaos
The world of the Tattershields' early-M42 deployment in William Crowe's White Dwarf serial Tatters of Hope, where the Kasrkin survivors of Cadia fight on. It is probably the ruined redoubt world of Veterans of the Fall, carved apart by rival cults, where they anchor a crumbling Imperial defence against the Archenemy; no permitted source names that world, so the identification is inferred. What happens there is in the book's spoiler.
Position
Map frame: 91, 653.3 in the archive's 0–1000 disk space (core at 500, 500).
Distance from the core: 437 units ≈ 46.5k light years, south-west of the galactic core.
Height above the disk plane: -7.3 units — invented thin-disk jitter, deterministic per record. No published source gives any location a z coordinate.
System: Gavaine System

wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Gavaine No Lexicanum article of its own ( is an empty page, read 2026-10-02); full-text search for 'Gavaine' finds only Tattershields, which lists 'Early M42: Gavaine deployment' and 'Vigen — Kasrkin. KIA on Gavaine', both cited to White Dwarf 507, Tatters of Hope: Part 2. Warhammer Community's Saturday Pre-orders of 25 Apr 2026 (8qvxr2ay) and Sunday Preview of 19 Apr 2026 (kvkfu6pq) say Veterans of the Fall brings together all five parts of Tatters of Hope, so the world is named inside this book. NAME-COLLISION CHECK: no index record uses the name and Lexicanum holds no other Gavaine.
primary-settingmedium
inferred: Warhammer Community (kvkfu6pq; Lexicanum Veterans_of_the_Fall_(Novel)) says the survivors were 'stranded on a ruined redoubt world carved apart by rival cults' after Cadia fell and have anchored its defence 'since then'; Lexicanum Tattershield_(Short_Story) puts the squad on 'a world all but lost to Chaos'. Neither names the world. Gavaine is the only world any permitted source names for the Tattershields after Cadia, which is why it is joined as the book's primary setting. That it IS the redoubt world is a reading, not a citation; reopen if a permitted source names the novella's world.
segmentumhigh
null: no permitted source names a sector, subsector, segmentum, neighbour or bearing for Gavaine.
classlow
'fortress', painted from the only description of the world the book's setting carries: a 'ruined redoubt world' (Warhammer Community kvkfu6pq), i.e. a fortified world, drawn as armoured grey rock. No terrain or colour word is published for Gavaine itself, and the cover shows Kasrkin advancing through smoke and fire in a built-up interior, which gives no surface. Depends on the primary-setting inference above.
gposlow
inferred: the world is NAMED but canon never locates it, so the record claims no segmentum and sits on the unsurveyed rim at the generator's rim_xy('gavaine') = [91.0, 653.3] (the function ported from build_locations.py, which reproduces rilis [738.9, 117.3], laxus-secundus [464.8, 48.9] and spetzghast [231.9, 850.8]; the script itself was not run). It lands beside the Blackstone Fortress and Colchis markers near the Cadian Gate only because of the id hash: the position carries no information and must not be read as one. Z -7.3 is the zPolicy value (compute-z.mjs gavaine 91.0 653.3).
erasmedium
indomitus only: Lexicanum Tattershields dates the Gavaine deployment 'Early M42' (White Dwarf 507), after the unit's 999.M41 13th Black Crusade service. 'contested': a world 'all but lost to Chaos' (Lexicanum Tattershield_(Short_Story)) whose Imperial defence is 'crumbling' and whose grip 'is slipping' (Warhammer Community kvkfu6pq), under the primary-setting inference.

editorial: 'gavaine', the world's own name; no source names a system or a star. The survey systems/gavaine.json is ONE WORLD and TRUNCATED.
